Fastest Triathlon Competitors of All Time

This is not a list of the greatest triathletes of all time. It a list of the fastest triathlon competitors of all time both in Ironman Championships and competitions not sanctioned by Ironman. Read on to see their records.

Jan Frodeno

Jan currently holds the world record for all iron distance finish of 7:35:38 hours which he set in Roth, Germany in 2016. He took the gold medal at the 2008 Olympics. The German triathlete has also won the Ironman World Championship twice and the 2015 Half-Ironman World Championship. He became the first triathlete to win both the Ironman World Championship and the Olympic Triathlon Gold in 2015. Jan is currently the fastest triathlon competitors of all time.

Tim Don

During a 2017 South American Championship in Brazil, Don set a 7:40:23 hours Ironman World Record which makes him the second fastest triathlon competitors of all time. The British triathlete was a competitor at the first Olympic triathlon in the 2000 Olympics where he came 10th. He has won some other triathlon competitions including the 2006 Championship in Lausanne where he finished 17 seconds ahead of Hamish Carter.

Andreas Raelert

Although his record time of 7:41:33 hours was not set at an Ironman sanctioned challenge, Andreas holds the record of the third fastest triathlon competitor of all time. He competed in the 2000 and 2004 Olympics triathlons where he finished twelfth and sixth respectively. The German triathlete was a silver medal winner at the 2008 Half-Ironman World Championships, a three-time runner-up in the Ironman World Championship, and finished 3rd at the 2011 Championship event.

Lionel Sanders

Lionel set a record 7:44:29 hours finish in the 2016 Arizona Ironman Championship, making him the 4th fastest triathlon competitors of all time. The Canadian triathlete won the 2017 ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championships and every 70.3 Ironman race that he entered, except the St. George Half-Ironman race where he came 2nd. He also placed 2nd in the 2017 Ironman World Championship. Between 2013 and 2017, Lionel partook in 55 triathlon events and made top-5 in 50 of them.

Marino Vanhoenacker

The Belgian triathlete finished at a world best time of 7:45:58 at the 2011 Ironman Triathlon in Austria making him the 5th fastest triathlon competitors of all time. With nine Ironman triathlons victories including three half-Ironman competitions and made the sub-8 hour make twice in full triathlons. He has also competed in duathlons where he won some medals too.

Brent McMahon

The Canadian pro triathlete set a world best finish time of 7:46:10 hours in the 2016 Brazil Ironman Championship. His 2016 victory was the 2nd Ironman title and marked his 3rd sub-8 finishes. The first sub-eight wins was at his first attempt at the Ironman long distance triathlon in Arizona.

Patrik Nilsson

The 25-year-old Swede triathlete claimed a sensational victory at the 2016 Ironman triathlon in Copenhagen with a world best time of 7:49:18 hours. From 2014 on, he has consistently won one Ironman event each year.

Antony Costes

The 27-years-old has won both the Ironman full distance triathlon and the Ironman 70.3 titles. In the 2017 Ironman event in Barcelona, Antony became the first French triathlete to make the sub-8 with a sensational victory in 7:49:19 hours.
